Mental Health Awareness At Workplace

Mental Health Awareness At Workplace

Mental health awareness is becoming an important issue that needs to be paid special attention. Growing needs and demands naturally asks for our commitment and regular efforts. It can be from the first party (needs), the second party (workplace), or a third party (need for more from both sides). These duties and desires create a lot of pressure for the person who is bagging those responsibilities. It is not easy to cope with such intense commitments alone.

We may not realize what we are going through until we are not ready to give time to ourselves and create every moment that is dedicated to ourselves. If we will start focussing our energy and time on others dreams then we will never be able to to keep calm and happy. This can bring us a step closer to mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, personality disorders, etc.

Little things that bother at workplace

  • Workload: This is impossible that you are at your workplace and you are not facing the problem of workload. Professionally, it is not a ‘problem’ but it is your ‘duty’ for what you are hired and paid for. So, you should better not complain about increasing workload. But logically you are only supposed to complete your target for the day no matter, how unreasonable it is.
  • Long working hours: A nine-hour shift is quite mandatory for each employee because nothing can be done within a few hours tenure a day. Nine hours shift is still alright but the major drawback is that you might be asked/ forced to stay beyond nine hours to get your work done. Above all, you are not paid for the extra hours or overtime that you are working for. So, cheers! If you can and try to hold your mental balance efficiently. Also, you can happily work for extra hours when you are paid extra and it is recorded in the sheets of the company.
  • Co-workers: There are two types of co-workers or colleagues. The first category belongs to those who are efficient in their tasks and their contribution is immense towards the growth of the company. But to their bad, they are often left unnoticed. Ultimately, they have to hear from their bosses that what were you doing for days? The other category belongs to those you are employed just for the sake of the employer. We can generally find them hovering around the seniors and sharing the gossips or backbiting about their co-workers in the same ambience.
  • Unhealthy ambience: The ambience of the office should be comfortable to the extent that it is easy to adjust. It includes cleanliness, arrangement for timely refreshments so that the employees can go and have a break in between their busy schedule. But unfortunately, there are some companies or offices that can not even afford to provide two cups of tea or coffee a day. To arrange their coffee, they have to go outside looking for some relief. On the other hand, a content writer will need to concentrate to think and write but regular disturbances by other staff may not let him do so.
  • Travel time: The industries and corporates are mostly located in commercial areas away from the residential areas. It has been observed that it takes almost four hours for employees to travel back and forth from home to office daily. It is not guaranteed that the travelling must be smooth. Some of them might be facing a lot of problems while travelling. This becomes more problematic when an employee finds another unhappy environment at the office.

Harassment in any form affects mental health. Many such things are leading to deteriorating mental health at the office that we may not know. When the intensity of stress, frustration, anxiety, etc. increases then one must stop and take a break. Introspect about what you want and what you are doing. It is only you who will be able to understand your mental strength, not others.

Introspection is a great tool to peep inside your soul and motivate yourself to work for yourself and the almighty is with you.
